Greek freighter "Aegean Wind" catches on fire on way to Houston, Texas, nine dead

News agencies are reporting that the Greek freighter, "Aegean Wind," caught on fire on its way from Brazil to Houston, Texas.  Conflicting reports place the origin of the fire in the mess hall and in the engine room.  The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.  Nine seamen are reported to have perished in the fire, and several others sustained burn injuries.  Of the deceased seamen, six were from the Philippines and three were from Greece.

All of these seamen should be considered Jones Act seamen

The Houston, Texas law firm of Vujasinovic & Beckcom handles many cases for Jones Act seamen, including foreign seamen who are involved in international offshore accidents (examples:  Filipino seaman case, Indian seaman case).  All of the firm's founding partners are Houston, Texas lawyers who are Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Many cases involving foreign seamen and international offshore and shipping accidents and injuries are litigated in Houston, Texas, because Houston is the home (or at least the home away from home) for much of the maritime industry.
