You Only Pay When We Win
If you’ve worked at sea, you know that a single mistake has the potential to cause an injury that might change your life. This was the case for our client, Mr. Orozco.
On December 9, 2021, Mr. Orozco, a seaman on the fishing vessel FT North Star, owned by North Star Fishing Company, LLC, suffered severe shoulder injuries while setting out nets during the vessel's maiden voyage. The incident occurred in extreme weather conditions and was captured on video footage (shown below).
In an instant, Mr. Orozco was struck by a line that leaped over a divider. Heavy lines under tension can be extremely dangerous if not secured properly, and this was the case on board the FT North Star. Despite proper reporting of the incident, there is evidence of negligence in handling the fishing operations, suggesting a lack of safety precautions in adverse weather.
Mr. Orozco suffered severe injuries to his shoulder, significantly impacting his quality of life. In the months following the incident, he required surgery which will affect his ability to work in the future.
VB Attorneys pursued legal action against North Star, ultimately securing a substantial settlement for Mr. Orozco and his family. This settlement will support him and his loved ones as they navigate his recovery and deal with years of lost wages.
