Two people have died in a shipboard fire at Port Houston, as confirmed by authorities. The Baytown Fire Department reported the incident occurred in the vessel's engine room just before 4 a.m. at the Port Houston Barbours Cut Container Terminal.

Port Houston officials confirmed the tragic loss of two crew members during the fire. At the same time, a third individual was urgently transported to the hospital in critical condition via Life Flight due to burns.

According to ABC 13, the fire erupted as the ship was being fueled by a barge that had approached the vessel.

The flames have been contained, but authorities will continue monitoring the area for 24 hours.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo shared the following statement on Twitter: "At this time, Harris County Pollution Control Services has confirmed that there is no threat to the surrounding community. Harris County extends our deepest to the deceased, the injured, and their families."

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said this incident is now a federal investigation.
