The Accident
In our years of practice, we've seen firsthand how lives are changed in an instant due to the negligence of others. Our client, Mr. Mireles, was stopped at a red light when a semi-truck operated by Coburn Supply Company struck his vehicle and several others at a high rate of speed. The semi-truck collided with the rear of Mr. Mireles' truck, causing extensive damage. Mr. Mireles was taken to the hospital and treated for neck and back injuries. His Ford F-150 was totaled.

The Aftermath
In the wake of the accident, Mr. Mireles underwent surgery and extensive physical therapy to repair the damage to his spine. The economic losses he incurred were severe, but it was only a fraction of the non-economic damages he suffered.
Our investigation into the accident revealed that the driver of the Coburn Supply Company truck had fallen asleep at the wheel. According to the driver's logs, he had been on duty or driving continuously since approximately 1:30 AM that day. While this would not normally be cause for concern, given that the accident occurred around 8:00 AM, it is relevant because the driver had been diagnosed with sleep apnea and the company was aware of this condition. Coburn and the driver violated multiple provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations related to the driver's sleep apnea condition. Had they gone through the appropriate procedures, this accident would not have happened.
The Settlement and Future of the Mireles Family
After a lengthy investigation and multiple court proceedings, VB Attorneys was able to secure a large settlement on behalf of our client, Mr. Mireles. While this settlement will help Mr. Mireles pay for his medical treatment and many other expenses, it cannot fully compensate him for the physical and emotional damage he has suffered as a result of the accident.
