- Attorney: Vuk Vujasinovic
The collision and the fire were separate questions
Another pickup struck the victims’ truck from behind at high speed. The struck vehicle caught fire, and all four occupants died.
The families’ lawsuit examined whether the pickup’s fuel-system design caused the fire and the fatal burn injuries. That issue was distinct from who caused the initial collision.
Developing the product-liability evidence
Vuk brought the case in Brazoria County. The claim alleged a defect in the fuel-tank system and relied on evidence of other similar incidents.
Automotive-defect and biomechanics experts addressed the liability issues. Medical experts examined the cause of death and the families’ damages.
General Motors disputed the cause of death
General Motors denied that a vehicle defect caused the deaths. It argued that the occupants had died from impact injuries and that the intoxicated driver who struck the truck was solely responsible.
The litigation therefore addressed both the design of the fuel system and the competing medical explanations for what caused the occupants’ deaths.
A confidential settlement
Following discovery, General Motors agreed to a confidential settlement resolving the claims brought for the two victims represented by Vuk.
