A family trip ended in a violent truck collision
The Command Master Chief was returning home after a Memorial Day visit with family when the 18-wheeler struck the driver’s side of her car. Firefighters used rescue equipment to free her, and an ambulance took her to the emergency room.
She had recently completed physical therapy after right-shoulder surgery. The collision disrupted that recovery and also injured her left shoulder and right ankle. Those injuries required additional surgery.
Investigating the truck driver’s work schedule
Brian filed suit against the driver and moving company. He examined their safety records and the driver’s work schedule.
The investigation developed evidence that the driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel after being overworked. The driver said he did not remember the collision.
Accounting for lasting injuries
Medical and economic evaluations addressed the injuries’ effects on her future work, physical activity and medical needs. Pain in her shoulders, back, neck and ankle continued well after the collision.
