A heavy lock line and a lasting back injury
Mr. H. worked as a deckhand aboard a Tow Line River Service tugboat. While handling and throwing a wet lock line weighing approximately 150 pounds, he developed severe back pain that radiated into his legs.
His treatment included surgery, but the injury continued to affect his ability to work and obtain needed care.
Investigating the work and vessel conditions
Brian retained experts who examined the work that caused the injury and the vessel’s condition. They concluded that the employer’s negligence and unseaworthy conditions contributed to Mr. H.’s injuries.
Those expert opinions supported the case; the claim was resolved by settlement.
Addressing stopped maintenance and cure payments
Tow Line River Service stopped maintenance and cure payments after Mr. H.’s surgeries. Brian pursued that issue along with the injury claim. The interruption had left Mr. H. facing debt and difficulty paying for treatment.
A confidential settlement
Brian, working with Job Tennant and the VB Attorneys team, secured a confidential settlement resolving Mr. H.’s case.
