A stairway fall after hours of heavy work
The mariner’s lawsuit alleged that he was injured in August 2012 after hauling hoses and lifting valves while offloading fuel from the Pacific Freedom. He then slipped on stairs that he claimed lacked the required slip-resistant tread.
He reported the injury and sought treatment as his pain persisted. His care included chiropractic treatment, a neurological evaluation and a nerve-block injection.
A second injury aboard the Nicolo
After returning to work, he was injured again in November while handling heavy equipment and boxes aboard the Nicolo. His claim described moving equipment without a gangplank.
He experienced sharp back and neck pain after lifting a heavy dryer. The incident was reported, and he returned home to Anchorage for treatment.
A confidential settlement with Kirby Marine
Vuk pursued the mariner’s claims arising from the two incidents. The case went to mediation in June 2014 and resolved for a confidential amount.
The settlement addressed the consequences of his back and neck injuries, including future medical needs.
