Sports Bar Under Investigation for Potentially Over-serving in UH Student's Fatal Crash

Written by Vuk Vujasinovic | 02/17/2022

Renzo Flores, a 24-year-old University of Houston student, was struck and killed by a young woman that had been drinking at a local sports bar. The bar is currently under investigation for potentially overserving the driver that struck Renzo.

The case is ongoing; Bourbon Street Sports Bar in Katy, TX, is being scrutinized for possibly overserving the accused, who has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. She is charged with causing the crash just 12 minutes after leaving the bar. Under Texas law, bars and restaurants that knowingly serve intoxicated individuals can be held responsible for damages if the patron causes injury to another.

The accused, already out on bond for driving while intoxicated in May 2021, crashed into Renzo and allegedly fled the scene on foot. According to court filings, she later returned to the crash with her sister, who says that they had been drinking earlier at a bar.

Renzo was about to graduate with his bachelor's degree in construction management. He was known for his gregarious nature and love for life. His family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses.
