A Texas Jeep Recall Attorney Talks about the Recalled Jeeps and How Injured Victims Can Get Help

Recently, Chrysler Group agreed to recall 1.56 million of its Jeeps due to safety concerns. The agreement comes after the company was originally asked by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to recall 2.7 million Jeeps, which Chrysler fought on the claim that the NHTSA’s analysis was in error. The reduction in the number of vehicles recalled is expected to save the company millions of dollars.

But what about the victims already injured by potentially dangerous Jeep products? Although the recall is a good step for avoiding future accidents, here’s what injured victims and their families should know.

Which Vehicles Are Affected by the Recall?

According to an article in USA Today, the following vehicles are being recalled:

  • Jeep Grand Cherokees from 1993-1998
  • Jeep Liberty SUVs from 2002-2007

Additionally, Jeep Grand Cherokees from 1999-2004 were initially included in the recall request, but Chrysler will now instead perform what it calls a “customer service action” for these vehicles. Although they have not been officially recalled, the vehicles could pose safety issues and will be handled in a similar manner to the recalled vehicles. All current-year Jeep models are reported to be unaffected by the issues that prompted the recall.

What Should Injured Victims Know about the Jeep Recall?

The issues affecting these Jeeps have reportedly caused fatal fires after rear impact, and it’s believed that a problem with the rear trailer hitch may be responsible. Although Chrysler refutes this and is not required to call these vehicles “defective” due to the agreement made with the NHTSA, many people across the US report that they have been injured or lost loved ones in dangerous Jeep fires after a rear impact.
