Two police officers saved a woman’s life when her vehicle veered into Buffalo Bayou, averting a possibly fatal single-car accident in Houston.
The woman, later discovered to be 41-year-old Lucerda Arvanette Davis, crashed through the guard rail on the bridge at Commerce and Milam about 4 p.m. on December 7, falling 30 feet before landing in the bayou. As her Buick sedan began to sink into the freezing water, two Houston police officers who were working as security nearby slid down the embankment and pulled Davis from the vehicle.
According to Houston Police, the officers administered CPR and first aid while calling for help.
Davis was in a coma after the accident, and was not carrying any visible identification. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition while rescue crews checked the car and surrounding waters to make sure there were no passengers in the vehicle.
While police are still investigating the cause of the accident, they say there is no reason to believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Police reported this morning that Davis is now conscious and responsive at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
