Truck Accident Kills 22-Year-Old Texas A&M Football Player

Posted on Jan 15, 2012

An Aggie football player was killed just 3 days before Christmas when a Texas 18-wheeler hit his car head-on.

22-year-old Joseph Villavisencio was a senior offensive lineman at Texas A&M University.  He was driving home on Highway 39 to Jacksonville, Texas for the holidays when he suddenly swerved to avoid a buzzard that had landed on the road.

Witnesses report he was unable to regain control of the car and veered into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.  The collision occurred just south of Normangee, roughly 100 miles from Houston.

Villavisencio died in the crash and is survived by both parents and his sister.  The driver of the 18-wheeler did not sustain any serious injuries.

Texas A&M University released a statement after the accident which included the young man’s accolades on the field: "Villavisencio played his freshman season in 2008, earning his first career start on the offensive line in a 49-35 A&M victory against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa."

Villavisencio was a senior set to graduate this coming spring with a degree in radiological health engineering. Before attending A&M, Villavisencio attended Jacksonville High School where he earned second team all-state honors from both the Associated Press and the Texas Sports Writers Association.

The attorneys at Vujasinovic & Beckcom would like to extend their sincerest condolences to the family and encourage all drivers to stay safe on the roads.
