Texas Woman Seeks Damages after Losing a Leg in Motorcycle Accident

A Galveston motorcycle crash has led to a lawsuit after the bike’s passenger sustained serious injuries last year.

Krystle Durrett is seeking compensation from a Louisiana motorcycle driver after the driver "accelerated his speed at a high rate and popped a wheelie," causing an accident that resulted in the loss of her leg.

The suit, filed against Westlake, LA resident Mike A. Prudhomme, states that Durrett was riding on the back of Prudhomme’s bike on June 27, 2010 when the defendant “attempted to pass another vehicle and in the process of doing so lost control of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway.”

According to court documents, Durrett “was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered severe personal injuries, including the loss of a leg from the hip, as well as other serious injuries."

Durrett, who underwent leg amputation surgery after the accident, is seeking monetary damages and a jury trial. She believes that Prudhomme was aware of the dangers of his actions, “but nevertheless proceeded with conscious indifference to the rights, safety or welfare of others."

The suit was filed on December 5 in Galveston County District Court. County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox will preside over the case.
