Many questions remain in a bizarre and tragic fall accident that took place at Texas State University early on Tuesday morning. According to the American-Statesman and school officials, three different students either jumped or fell twelve feet from a first-story window on campus this week. One woman, 24-year-old sophomore Eirin Ann Hicks, died from the fall, while 19-year-old Kristin McCreery suffered back injuries in the fall. A third male student was not injured and has not been identified.
The apparent fall accident took place at 2 a.m. at Laurel Hall dormitory, where the students were gathered in a dorm room. At this time, police do not know what caused the three to jump or fall out of the window, though some early rumors have suggested that they may have been trying to escape the room after a noise complaint. Witnesses who were in the room that night are cooperating with police. Authorities are not sure whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the fatal fall incident.
The four-floor dorm had been recently renovated. The first-floor window was 12 feet off of the ground because of large, basement-level windows located below.
Hicks, a mass communications major, was recently elected to the student government. She and the rest of the student body were preparing for end-of-semester exams this week.
