A tragic house fire in Texarkana, Texas on Sunday morning left one toddler dead and three adults injured.
According to the Texarkana Gazette and the Houston Chronicle, the Texarkana Fire Department’s Fire Captain believes that the fire was electrical in nature and may have been sparked by a malfunctioning air conditioner. Authorities do not believe that foul play was a factor in the blaze.
There were five adults and three children in the house at the time of the fire, which was called in at around 9:30 in the morning. All of the adults and two of the children escaped the blaze, though three-year-old Alicia Spencer did not survive. The survivors said that they tried to reenter the home for the little girl, but the intensity of the flames and smoke was too much. The girl did not live at the home. Her body will undergo an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
Three of the adults were transported to the hospital with minor smoke and fire related injuries after the incident. The other children involved in the fire, both under the age of ten, were not injured.
It took firefighters about one hour to get the house fire under control and recover the toddler’s body.
