A man is suing FedEx after sustaining severe injuries in a motorcycle crash. The man, Ryan LeBlanc, claims that he was forced to take evasive action when a FedEx truck failed to yield the right of way. The accident happened while the motorcycle rider was on Eight Street in Port Neches and the FedEx truck was traveling south on gulf Street.
LeBlanc’s lawsuit states that he was forced to lay down his 2007 Honda motorcycle to avoid the FedEx truck, driven by Victor Lynn Hakanson, causing him to slide 21 feet and sustain severe bodily injuries. The wreck, states the lawsuit, caused LeBlanc’s physical and mental condition to deteriorate, and led to physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, medical costs and lost earnings.
The complaint was filed in Jefferson County against Federal Express and Hakanson. The suit blames Hakanson for the motorcycle wreck, claiming that while he did stop at the intersection’s stop sign, he did not wait until it was safe to proceed.
Hakanson is accused of failing to drive safely, failing to keep a lookout, failing to turn to avoid a collision, failing to apply his brakes in a timely manner, failing to stop or yield to avoid a crash, failing to proceed into the intersection only when it was safe, and failing to yield the right of way.
