Houston Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed After Man Falls From Rollercoaster

Posted on Apr 05, 2011

A man’s parents and son have filed a Houston wrongful death lawsuit against a rodeo company this week after a man died in a rollercoaster accident.

The fatal Texas amusement park accident took place last week when 46-year-old Brian Greenhouse was aboard the Hi-Miler rollercoaster on the final night of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo run by Ray Cammack Shows (RCS). The man, who was in the foremost car, fell 28 feet and died of his fall injuries. Investigators are still unsure of why the rollercoaster accident took place, though the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo claims that the safety bar that is meant to hold in passengers was still in place after the accident.

However, a Houston personal injury attorney representing the family says that the front coaster car of the Hi-Miler had a history of mechanical problems; for example, two years ago a couple reported that their safety bar came loose during their rollercoaster ride. Although RCS was told about this worrisome incident, they did not seem to take measures to prevent future issues.

The wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the rodeo company failed to instruct Greenhouse how to ride the rollercoaster safety, that they did not show him how to properly secure his safety device, that the rollercoaster itself was not safe, that the park employees were not properly trained, and that passengers were not warned about the unreasonable risks they were taking by getting on the ride.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has only released a statement saying that they would not comment on the accident because of the pending wrongful death lawsuit.
