Three workers are in critical condition and two others have been seriously injured in an industrial accident that took place at the TXI Cement Company in Midlothian, Texas. The worker accident occurred about 25 miles outside of Dallas on Highway 67.
According to the Dallas News, the five men were doing maintenance work on a kiln at the time of the on-the-job accident – part of the main processing plant and an important step in the cement making process. While it is still unclear how the burn accident occurred, firefights on the scene from Midlothian, Mansfield, and Cedar Hill fire departments said that an explosion was not involved.
Three of the workers were rushed by emergency responders by helicopter to Parkland Hospital. The two workers with less serious burns were transferred to local hospitals by ambulance. TXI released a statement confirming that five of their workers had been burned in a workplace accident, but added that they did not know how or why the accident took place.
In 2008, the family of a Texas woman who was killed by a TXI cement truck sued the company for negligence. The woman’s young daughter was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred after a TXI truck driver lost control of his vehicle.
