A fatal Texas work accident occurred when a worker fell 65 feet to his death on Monday while he was on a billboard catwalk near Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 40-year-old John Burnette lost his footing and fell from the catwalk around noon on Monday. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby Arlington hospital, but he was pronounced dead soon after his arrival. A subsequent investigation found his cause of death to be blunt force trauma. The manner of death was confirmed to be accidental.
The fatal on-the-job accident, which took place near the intersection of East Division Street and Legends Way, will be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), who did not comment on the case. An assistant fire chief, who was at the scene of the accident, reported that the man was wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident. It is not known if the harness was connected to anything at the time of the fall or if the harness was defective in some way.
The man was employed by Reynolds Sign, an Irving, Texas, company that specializes in sports venue marketing and electrical signage. The sign company, which does not appear to have a history of safety violations, has not commented on the accident.
The Houston work injury lawyers at Vujasinovic & Beckcom offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Burnette.
