Disclaimer

We designed this website to provide information to consumers, injured people, and their families. Our goal is to level the playing field between consumers and insurance companies and expose the tricks, traps, and techniques they use to cheat injured people out of their legal rights. We also let consumers know about legal news, including verdicts and settlements and other interesting legal information.

But please understand that nothing on this website is meant to provide legal information about your specific case, create an attorney-client relationship, or imply that the results of your legal case will be the same as some other case.

Am I required to hire a union lawyer or "Union Designated" lawyer for my railroad injury case?

If you are a member of a a railroad union like the United Transportation Union, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, or any other railroad union, and you are injured on the job, your rights to legal recovery will be governed by the Federal Employers' Liability Act (also known as "FELA").

In many situations, if you have been injured on the job, you will be contacted by a "union lawyer" or "union designated" lawyer. Some railroad workers believe they are required to hire a "union lawyer" for their case.

You are not required to hire a union lawyer for your railroad injury case.

Should you hire a Union-Designated Law Firm or Lawyer for your railroad injury case?

That really depends. You need to strongly consider and analyze whether you want a union lawyer for your case or whether you want a lawyer who is completely independent of the railroad or the lawyer.

Many union designated lawyers are fine lawyers. However, you need to think about how lawyers become "Union Designated" in the first place. You need to consider how muchy money the law firms who are "union designated" make from their "union designation" and how many injured FELA workers get personalized attention from these lawyers.

You have to ask yourself whether you are comfortable with a lawyer who may be somewhat familiar and close with the railroads and their insurance and claims agents.

At our law firm, Mr. Beckcom does not believe it is appropriate to be too "close" or "friendly" with the railroads when he represents injured railroad workers. Mr. Beckcom believes his one and only obligation is to ensure that his clients obtain the best possible settlement in the shortest possible time frame.

Mr. Beckcom also believes he serves his clients best by selecting only a small number of legitimate and important cases every year. By only selecting a limited number of railroad workers to represent, Mr. Beckcom ensures that each and every one gets close personal attention. Mr. Beckcom believes that close, personal attention to each client eventually results in a higher settlement in a smaller amount of time.

If you would like Mr. Beckcom to review your railroad injury case, please use the Contact Form on this website or call toll free at 877.724.7800.

Mr. Beckcom will personally review your case for free with no-obligations from you. If Mr. Beckcom accepts your case, he will work on it with you hand-in-hand from start to finish.

Do you have a railroad injury or accident case?
