How to prevent child burn injuries

The Mayo Clinic has some excellent information on child safety including information on burn injuries.

First, the Mayo Clinic recommends checking and re-checking your smoke alarms to make sure they work. Check the batteries often, at least 2 times per year.

There are numerous household hazards that may cause serious burn injuries to children. They include the following:

Hot water (especially when bathing)
Spills (especially hot pots and pans on the oven)
Hot irons
Electrical outlets (make sure that you have plastic plugs in your electrical outlets).
Cigarettes (house fires caused by cigarettes are a leading cause of burn injuries and death)
Candles (another leading cause of fires and burn injuries)

Finally, proper supervision is probably the most important part of keeping your kids safe. Watch them vigilantly. Serious injuries can occur quickly if you take your eye of your kids for even a little while.

Sometimes, unfortunately, parents unwittingly or unknowingly buy dangerous or defective household products without any warning from the manufacturer.

Our law firm represents children who have been the victim of burn injuries as a result of defective household products or dangerous items in the house.
