5 Things to Do Immediately After an Accident with a Semi in Texas
Immediately after you were injured in a Houston truck wreck, you probably weren’t thinking about building a case against the truck driver. You probably just wanted to make sure everyone was ok. An accident can be extremely traumatic, and it is difficult to think clearly in the immediate aftermath.
Despite the terrible memory, many people wish they could go back to those few moments after an accident as they sat waiting for the police to arrive. It may be hard to believe, but your truck accident case starts the moment your car is struck. Many people make mistakes during this time period that costs them their case.
Here are five things you should do immediately after a Houston truck accident:
Take pictures. Accident victims will often take pictures of the damage to their own vehicle, but you should photograph as much as you can of the scene, including other cars and the truck, skid marks, position of the vehicles, road conditions and photos of any injuries you sustained in the crash.
Take notes. While waiting for police to arrive, write down everything you can remember about the accident. Include facts you will need later, such as license plate numbers and contact information for all drivers and witnesses.
Give police the facts (and ONLY the facts). Police officers are only interested in hearing what happened, and any speculation could hurt your case later. Never admit fault. Always ask for a copy of the police report for your records.
See a doctor. Many victims make the mistake of thinking they are uninjured if they feel fine after the crash. However, some injuries can take days to appear—and with the risk of internal injuries, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Get legal advice. Make no mistake: trucking companies have a team of lawyers working day and night to keep them from paying for accidents. An attorney who has tried truck accident cases before may be more likely to be successful against corporate trucking lawyers.
As experienced Houston truck accident attorneys, we realize how unfair it is for the trucking company to be working against you at a time when you are at your most vulnerable. That’s why we think you’ve done enough just by surviving a Texas truck accident. We go to work collecting evidence and building your case for you, giving you the time you need to rest and heal.
The board-certified injury attorneys at Vujasinovic & Beckcom can help you get justice from the trucking company and compensation for your injury.
