Houston Drunk Truck Driving Attorney discusses rules designed to prevent impaired truckers from driving.

What rules are in place to prevent impaired truckers from getting behind the wheel?

The trucking regulations require trucking companies to do background checks, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, and reutrn to duty testing. Most of the trucking rules associated with drug and alcohol issues are contained in Part 382: Controlled substances and alcohol use and testing. These rules are very detailed and discuss testing procedures, timing requirements, etc.

The rules also call for post-accident testing, contained in Part 382.303.

Impaired truckers are a safety hazard on our roadways.

Obviously, a truck driver impaired due to alcohol or drug use is a serious safety hazard on the road. That is why the rules are designed to keep impaired truckers off of our roadways. If truck drivers and trucking companies to not follow these rules, the motoring public is put at serious risk.
