Why are there so many different insurance adjusters involved in my auto claim? Whose side are they on? Houston Auto Wreck Lawyer explains.
After a serious car accident, you are probably getting visits or calls from not one, but perhaps two, three or more insurance adjusters. It is perfectly natural for you to question why you are having to deal with so many different adjusters.
You are hearing from so many different adjusters because there are several different insurance policies that apply to your auto accident. Each insurance company that has some involvement has an adjuster on your claim. And, in fact, some insurance companies may have more than one adjuster on your claim -- one for each type of claim.
Let's start with the insurance for the person who hit you. That person's insurance company will usually have two adjusters: one for your claim for damage to your car ("property damage claim"), and one for your claim for personal injuries ("bodily injury claim"). These adjusters are not on your side and are not trying to help you. In fact, they are trying to pay you nothing or as little as possible. So, you need to be very careful in dealing with them (unless you have a lawyer, in which case your lawyer will deal with them). You are probably pretty safe as to the property damage adjuster -- it's usually pretty simple to agree on the value of the damage to your car. However, the bodily injury adjuster is a different story. Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE THIS PERSON THE "RECORDED STATEMENT" THEY KEEP ASKING YOU TO GIVE. Why not? Read this V&B Article for the answer.
If there was a third or fourth or more vehicles involved in your crash, you will be hearing from adjusters for the insurance for all of these people. Again, they will each have a property damage adjuster and a bodily injury adjuster.
Now we come to your own insurance. If you have auto insurance, you may have coverage on it that you could claim. So, your own insurance company will assign an adjuster for your accident. Usually, the adjuster for your own insurance will be on your side. This is because your insurance company will have a claim against the other insurance companies if they have to pay money to you, and your insurance company will want to preserve this claim.
So, this is why you are hearing from so many adjusters. If you have questions about dealing with insurance adjusters, please contact us and our Board Certified Houston Car Accident Lawyers will help you.
