Will the insurance company be fair to you if you are injured in a car accident?

If you have been injured in a car accident, and if the person that caused the accident has insurance, you have probably already heard from that person's auto insurance adjuster. They are likely requesting that you do all sorts of things, like give a "recorded statement," sign various forms, and sign away the title to your damaged car.

The auto claims adjuster will treat you very politely, and you will not necessarily suspect that they up to no good. In fact, you will probably not suspect that they would treat you unfairly.

However, perception is not always reality. Unfortunately, that insurance adjuster who you think is so nice has one job, and one job only: TO DO AS MUCH DAMAGE TO YOUR CLAIM, AND TO PAY YOU NOTHING OR AS LITTLE MONEY AS POSSIBLE.

That's why you have probably heard from the claims adjuster very soon after your accident -- perhaps even on the day of the accident. They try to get to you before you have had a chance to research your situation, and before you have had a chance to receive all the medical attention you need.

They do this because they know once you have armed yourself with some information, you will know better than to do the things they are asking of you.

So, is that insurance company going to treat you fairly? Unfortunately, the answer is "no."

If you have a serious injury after a car crash, you should seriously consider talking to a car accident lawyer. Even if you end up not hiring an attorney, you will be more familiar with the process and you will understand the goal of he insurance company.
