How do I know If I am a Jones Act seaman?

A: The Jones Act was put in place to protect seamen who are injured while a member of a crew of a vessel that has not been removed from navigation. It is important to understand that the word “vessel” can be applied to a number of different structures other than traditional boats, such as jack-ups, semi-submersibles, barges, drill ships, tugs, towboats, crew boats, dredges, floating cranes, tankers, cargo ships. If you believe that you are a seaman covered under the Jones Act and have been injured, you should speak with a Houston maritime law attorney as soon as possible.
