A: If a Houston police officer investigated your car accident, you can get a copy of the police report by going to the City of Houston police report website. You have to create a new account, which is very easy by providing a user name and password. You must provide the "incident number" for your accident (police officer should have provided you with a slip containing this number), and at least two of the following pieces of information: (1) date of crash, (2) location of crash, (3) names of drivers. It costs you $7.50 to get the accident report this way.
Instead of getting your police report on line, you can get it by mail by sending a check for $6.00 payable to "City of Houston" along with a self addressed stamped envelop containing the above information to HPD, Records Division, 1200 Travis, Houston TX 77002.
Or, you can go in person to the HPD Records Division / Public Counter at 1200 Travis, 1st Floor. The counter is open M-F from 8a to 5p, and the cost is $6.00.
