Young Woman Granted $7 Million in Bus Accident Trial

Ashley Reedy, a 24-year-old Colorado woman has been awarded $7 million by a Dallas jury, from a roll-over crash on a Greyhound bus in Wheeler County, TX. The bus accident trial lasted three weeks.

According to Reedy, the Greyhound driver was using a cell phone while driving in icy conditions on I-40. While talking on his phone, the driver braked improperly while approaching a wreck on the highway. The bus lost control and rolled over, injuring Reedy’s head, neck, and back.

The jury awarded Reedy $2.2 million in damages and $4.8 million in punitive damages. Through the verdict, Reedy can now have the surgeries she desperately needs. Hopefully in the following months, bus companies can see this as an example on new protocols.

The driver in this particular case received three speeding convictions shortly before Greyhound hired him and had used his cell phone seventeen times in the three hours before the accident.
