This morning in Manhattan, workers were going about their daily morning routine when 41 year old Suzzane Hart entered an elevator, which closed on her. Her leg and foot were caught instantly as the elevator shot up, dragging her body into the shaft between the first and second floors. She was killed immediately.
Two other women who were in the elevator watched the entire scene in horror and are being treated for psychological trauma but were not physically injured, according to Fire Department officials.
Hart worked for Y&R advertising agency, which is one of many companies working in the 25 story office tower near Grand Central. The building was built in the 1920s.
The Fire Department and the Buildings Department were on the scene and caused quite the stir among the tenants and pedestrians passing by.
To anyone that works in an office building, this is their worst fear. Especially when elevators are meant to be trusted, inspected, and transport you up to as many as sixty floors!
