Our Texas work accident injury lawyers are always astounded when we hear of employers taking chances with workers’ lives. Many construction companies have made the news for Occupational Safety and Health Administration violations, and Williams Brothers Construction is among them.

In recent years, Williams Brothers Construction has been cited for:

  • Vehicle Accidents. A Metropolitan Transit Authority bus driver sustained injuries to her neck and back when her bus was struck by a Williams Brothers dump truck last year. The dump truck driver testified that he “did not feel the impact of the collision with the bus” and was “unaware that the accident had even occurred until Jackson tapped on his window” to tell him.
  • On-Site Safety Issues. As inspection by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a violation to a Williams Brothers construction site in 2000 for failing to cover floor holes on the second floor of a structure. Williams Brothers attempted to deny the violation by saying they were not directly responsible, since the site was overseen by a different employer. The multi-employer defense was rejected, and OHSA determined that WBC “failed to show it protected its own employees from the hazard.”
  • Multiple Violations. In 2002, OSHA cited Williams Brothers with eight serious safety violations, alleging that the employer failed to provide adequate shoring and training at an excavation site. Violations included failing to provide crane operator training, failing to keep employees clear of suspended loads and failing to brace or shore adjoining buildings, walls or structures—any of which could cause death or serious physical harm to employees. OSHA believed that the employer should have been aware of these hazards and issued penalties totaling nearly $142,000.
