An 18-wheeler UPS truck caught fire early this morning, just after midnight, driving from Houston to Dallas.
The truck was headed northbound on I-45 in Conroe when the driver reached
across the cab for something on the floor, causing him to be distracted.
The truck swerved outside the shoulder, near a construction area, and slammed into the end of a guardrail. The truck lost its axels, jackknifed and immediately became enveloped in flames.
Traffic was backed up for miles. North Montgomery County fire departments worked long hours through the night to clean the remaining debris.
The Texas Department of Transportation arrived to repair road damage.
Meanwhile, the distracted driver of the truck was taken to a hospital in stable condition. It is obvious that drivers who work well in the night can also be extremely drowsy. It is unknown at the present time what his condition was while he was driving.
Because it was a UPS truck, there were many packages lost in the fire. One of them had a small amount of ammunition. One of the bullets exploded and ricocheted off a fire truck while the authorities were trying to tame the flames. Luckily, there was no damage.
