Two Atlanta Contractors Dead From Boom Accident

Two contractors are confirmed dead from a work accident in Atlanta after a cherry picker, in which they were on, toppled over and threw them over 40 feet to the cemented ground. The contractors were working outside an apartment complex, weatherproofing the side of the building.

According to Atlanta Fire Rescue, when the two contractors were attempting to move the lift to another location, it got stuck on a small curb. Upon trying to maneuver the lift around, it flipped over, dropping the workers 40-feet to the concrete. The heavy machine followed and landed close to them on the ground.

The crash was heard by everyone in the area and immediately caused a scene. One witness says he saw one of the contractors leg over the side of the bucket on the crane, the other was on the grass just barely moving.

After a series of 911 calls, the scene had a dozen fire fighters and numerous police officers. EMTs took the men to Grady Memorial Hospital where they died from their injuries.

Fulton County Medical Examiners appeared at the scene quickly and tried to configure the cause of the accident. Big cranes like these are supposed to be able to maneuver quite easily with two people in the bucket. Even if there is a lot of shaking and bouncing, the lift is supposed to handle situations like that.
