The freak accident that wrongfully killed New York ad executive Suzane Hart in an elevator is still on the minds of many New Yorkers, however alarming facts have surfaced regarding Transel Elevator Inc., the elevator company that inspected the elevator which killed Hart.
V&B reported on this case within minutes of it happening back in December and since then, we have dug up new information and found reporter Murray Weiss reporting on the story. Sources have told Weiss that Transel Elevator Inc. did not follow the rules for governing elevator maintenance.
The company didn’t inform the Buildings Dept. that it had finished work on the elevator which killed Hart. If they had done this, a final inspection would have happened by the city inspector whom might have discovered a broken kink.
But why would the company fail to say that they were finished? Possibilities are endless. There could have been a rush and they couldn’t afford to have an elevator out of service. Money might have been a factor.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office will soon be taking over the investigation. According to Weiss, the workers that were doing maintenance on the elevator have been less than cooperative which comes at no surprise given the fact that there are several active cases against Transel.
A witness to Hart’s death is filing a civil lawsuit against the company. Adding to that, another suit was brought by a Union Square building super who fell down an elevator shaft when he stepped through elevator doors that had opened before the elevator arrived.
Currently, the lawyers at V&B are fighting another elevator company, Kone. Our client was a victim to negligent maintenance when a heavy freight elevator door fell on her head.
Companies like Transel and Kone are supposed to put the safety of its passengers first and by failing to uphold the rules of elevator maintenance, people’s lives are at risk.
