Tragic Accident Between Two Houston Fire Department Fire Trucks

As many Houstonians are aware, an unusual car accident occurred on March 30, 2009.  Responding to a reported fire, two Houston Fire Department vehicles collided at an intersection in the Montrose area.  The collision between the HFD ladder truck and pumper truck was violent enough to cause the ladder truck to flip on its side landing on top of one civilian car and one cyclist.  As a result of the accident, ABC 13 has reported that 11 people were injured including two civilians and nine firefighters.

At this time, the Houston Police Department is still investigating the collision and attempting to determine who was at fault.  There is also discussion of whether the Opticom system was properly working at the time of the accident.  The Opticom system speeds up traffic light cycles for emergency vehicles such as the HFD vehicles.

Hopefully the Houston Police Department will be able to determine the cause of this tragic accident.
