Tragedy strikes twice: two car wrecks claim two Texas women’s lives

Two women were killed in two separate Texas car wrecks on Sunday morning.  The first accident, which occurred in the early hours, was a single car wreck.  The second happened when a driver tried to pass another vehicle, and lost control.  Both involved drivers losing control of their cars for unknown reasons – a very common accident occurrence.

Four people were headed west on FM 517 in a Pontiac Bonneville when the crash happened.  For unknown reasons the car veered off the road near the 29th street curve.  After losing control of the Pontiac, the driver crashed into a chain link fence.

Amanda May Magum, 29, of San Leon, was killed when she was impaled on part of the fence.  It is not known if she was wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred.  The driver of the vehicle and one of the backseat passengers were treated on the scene for their injuries.  The fourth passenger, a man from San Leon, had to be taken to John Sealy Hospital at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.  The driver of the Pontiac did voluntarily submit to testing to determine if she was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The second crash happened a mere four hours later, when a woman was killed near Tiki Island when she tried to pass another car.  The driver, Lisa Lazare, 43, lost control of her vehicle and it rolled over and crashed into a tree.  Lazare was not wearing her seat belt when the accident happened, and was thrown from the car when it rolled.  This accident happened on I-45 near the Tiki Island exit number 4.
