Toyota recently announced it is recalling 3.8 million vehicles due to a dangerous floor mat defect. The floor mats are prone to jam the accelerators on the vehicles, which can cause bad accidents.
Toyota initially identified the following vehicles have this floor mat defect:
- 2007-2010 Camry
- 2005-2010 Avalon
- 2004-2009 Prius
- 2005-2010 Tacoma
- 2007-2010 Tundra
- 2007-2010 Lexus ES350
- 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350
Toyota and NHTSA are urging car owners to immediately remove the driver's side floor mat, and not to replace it. Toyota promises more information will be forthcoming on this floor mat defect.
Yesterday, Toyota announced that even more of its vehicles may be the subject of this defect. Users are advised to remove the driver's side floor mats from any Toyota vehicle until Toyota further clarifies which vehicles are impacted.
