The manufacturer of an infrared space heater is being sued by a Texas woman who claims that the product is defective and caused a fire that destroyed her house in December.
The Canton woman, Temple Bolt, is suing Suarez Corp. Industries (doing business as Sci Direct) after their allegedly defective product, EdenPURE infrared space heater, model 1000XL, allegedly caught fire and burned down Bolt’s Texas home.
According to the defective product lawsuit, which was filed in Tyler, Texas, the space heater did not have a device to turn off the product if it overheated and did not have the appropriate thermal protection to guard against overheating and fire. In addition to its improper design, the lawsuit claims that the product did not contain sufficient warnings about the potential dangers of the product – either in its manual or in its advertisements.
Bolt is asking for $232,548 in the
dangerous product lawsuit – which covers the cost of the damage to her home, the property inside her house, her living expenses since the fire, interest, and court costs.
While many people assume that the products that they buy are inherently safe, some manufacturers sell devices that are dangerous and even deadly. If you have been injured or harmed by a defective and dangerous space heater, speak to a Houston products liability attorney today about the incident.
