Texas Board Certified Lawyer: TOP FIVE STEPS you should take if you are in an 18 wheeler or car accident

If you are involved in an accident with an 18 wheeler or other vehicle, make sure you take the following steps.  This article assumes you have sustained some type of serious injury in the crash.

1.  Call 911, or make sure someone else does, and ask for an ambulance to be sent to the accident location.  The paramedics will examine and treat you, and if necessary, bring you to a hospital emergency room.

2.  Call the police, or make sure someone else does, and ask for a police officer to be sent to the scene.  A police officer will come to the scene.  Tell the officer how your accident happened.  The officer will prepare a written accident report based on his or her investigation of the crash.

3.  Get information from the other driver.  Ask for their driver's license and insurance card.  Write down their name, address, driver's license number, name of insurance company, and insurance policy number.

4.  Take pictures of your car.  Do this after you have been checked out by the ambulance paramedics or emergency room personnel.
