A Spring, Texas business is promoting an anti-texting while driving video contest, which kicked off on Monday February 21. The contest, being sponsored by the Milstead Automotive Group in Spring, is open to local teens, and is timed to be completed before the spring break holiday.
Is texting and driving really a problem?
Our Houston personal injury attorneys are seeing more and more distracted driving accidents. Texting while driving is a form of distracted driving, which is an issue that automotive safety experts rank as the second biggest driving problem, right behind drunk driving. Every year at least 500,000 accidents and 6,000 deaths result from drivers who are not paying attention to the road, many of whom are sending or reading text messages instead of driving.
Trying a teen to teen anti-texting message
Some experts believe that teens have become numb to all the safe driving and anti-texting messages out there. The Milstead video contest, called “It’s 10 & 2 NOT 10 & TEXT” is expected to work because it calls for teens to create videos for their peers. Law enforcement officials and school administrators in Montgomery County hope that the teen to teen anti-texting message will make a difference.
There is no doubt that texting and driving is dangerous. If you are suffering because of a distracted driving accident, especially one that involved texting while driving please talk to one of our Houston personal injury attorneys before you speak with anyone else, especially the insurance company.
