Pakistan Issues Intense Recall On Medications After 27 People Are Dead

At least twenty seven people over the last month have been killed in Pakistan due to a contaminated drug. An intense drug recall is being administered all over the country.

The government-run Punjab Institute of Cardiology has given thousands of doses of the faulty medicines free of charge to patients with heart problems. Investigators suspect bits of metal in the pills are responsible for heavy bleeding, which is responsible for these wrongful deaths.

Over one hundred people have been admitted to hospitals because of symptoms and according to sources the death toll is much higher than originally thought.

So far, five drugs have been banned that are believed to be contaminated and three people have been arrested in connection with the deaths. One unnamed pharmaceutical factory has been shut down.

The deaths began just last month. When patients were coming in to hospitals, their symptoms were very similar to dengue fever, but doctors soon realized that it wasn’t that. They discovered the one thing in common with all the patients was heart disease, and their medications were from the Punjab Institute of Cardiology.

The Pakistan government spends little money on health issues, which is why many Pakistanis do not trust state-run medical centers.

In these economic times, free medication seems like the best thing you can ask for. However, many facilities have neglected to do proper safety tests on these medications that are being issued to thousands of people.
