Oklahoma Jury Awards $1.8 Million To Birth Injury Victim

An Oklahoma family was awarded $1.8 million for their child, Chaylee.

During the birth of four-year-old Chaylee in 2008, the doctor inadvertently ripped and ruptured nerves in her left shoulder, which rendered her left arm useless.

The lawsuit claimed that Chaylee’s doctor made two incredible mistakes. First, the doctor chose to utilize a vacuum delivery despite the relatively good health of the baby in utero. Secondly, during delivery Chaylee’s shoulder became
stuck behind her mother’s pelvic bone and the doctor pulled down on Chaylee’s head which caused severe damage.

The damage to Chaylee is most likely permanent. Her left arm will always be shorter than her right arm and will be little use to her. Her injury will also likely delay the advancement of the fine motor skills children develop rapidly at her age.

$1.2 million went to past and future medical bills as well as lost wages. $600,000 was awarded for pain and suffering.

Severe birth injuries happen every day and negligent doctors need to be held accountable. Though Chaylee has had justice, thousands of families across the United States are seeking theirs.
