Toyota has issued a voluntary recall that affects 2.3 million vehicles. The recall is because of problems with throttles that can wear prematurely and stick open, causing a vehicle to continue to accelerate even when pressure is removed from the accelerator.

According to Toyota, the first symptom of a throttle problem is an accelerator pedal that feels roudh instead of smooth. The second symptom is an accelerator pedal that does not return quickly to the default position when pressure is removed from the pedal. Lastly, the final symptom of the problem is an accelerator pedal that remains depressed even when the driver’s foot is removed from the pedal.
Drivers are advised to visit their dealer when the experienced the first symptom of the problem. If the throttle gets stuck open while a driver is on the road, Toyota advises that they shift into neutral, pull over to the side of the road, and call a dealer.
