Motorcycle rider’s excessive speed, lack of helmet lead to death

Motorcycle riding can be exhilarating, but it can also be deadly – especially if safety precautions are not taken.  A recent motorcycle death in Houston underscores the importance of motorcycle safety, not just to keep motorcyclists safe but also to protect all road users from accident and injury.

A motorcycle rider who was speeding and not wearing a helmet was killed when he crashed into a car while driving westbound on the 610 South Loop.  The accident happened at night in the middle of the week, around 10pm, near the Stella Link Road exit.

The motorcyclist, who has not yet been named, was trying to pass a Honda Civic when the crash occurred.  According to police, the motorcycle rider had been driving in and out of traffic before he collided with the Civic.

The motorcycle rider died at the scene of the accident.  Two women riding in the Civic were taken to a hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

Excessive speed and failure to wear a helmet are two ways that motorcycle riders can make riding dangerous, not just for themselves but as this accident shows for other drivers as well.  Motorcycle riders and other motorists must work together and always share the road.
