Mississippi School Bus Gets Hit By 18 Wheeler

On Friday, twenty students were on their way to school in their local school bus when their driver, blind from the sun, pulled out in front of an 18-wheeler and was hit in the rear, flipping the school bus on its side.

The school bus carried 20 students and all were injured. One female student was air lifted to University Medical Center in Jackson and others were being treated at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona.

It was reported Friday evening that two students are in critical condition, three are in stable condition, and two were treated or discharged.

It is unknown how some of these injuries may have long term effects as they begin to heal, the ages of the students ranged from elementary to high school. In children, injuries tend to heal quicker.

School bus accidents are rare. When they happen, entire communities are affected. Since most School Buses do not have seat belts, it is more likely that when an accident like this does happen, riders are in more danger.
