A recent article about Long-Term Insurance finds that some insurance companies may be taking advantage of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Here is an excerpt from the article, and a link to the main article
“The word ‘insure’ has an honorable history. Dating back to 1440 and the French, it comes from the words ‘en suren’ and ‘assure,’ meaning to make one feel safe. Think about the people in our society who are engaged in making us safe -- doing the business of insurance -- and they are the most respected in our society: police, soldiers, doctors, firemen, first responders. The people who wear the word in the most direct sense, insurance companies, perhaps had a reputation for integrity in 1440, or even in 1752, when Benjamin Franklin established the first insurance company in America. But some of the insurers of today have given us anything but a feeling of safety, especially the most vulnerable. The people who need and deserve security most are our senior citizens, but today's insurers are not providing this blanket of confidence.”
