A Houston driver is currently in jail facing a murder charge after Houston police believe he deliberately caused a serious car crash that killed his wife, a passenger in his car. The driver, Pedro Cueva-Ferman, 48, initially claimed that his vehicle – a 1990 Lexus sedan – was responsible for the crash.
How is this possible? The Lexus, according to Cueva-Ferman, had a faulty accelerator and brakes, and careened out of control in a Fiesta parking lot in southwest Houston. However, the Lexus Cueva-Ferman was driving was not part of the Toyota recall issued last year for acceleration problems.
Not only that, but investigators failed to find any evidence of an acceleration defect or braking problem in the vehicle. In fact, they do not believe that Cueva-Ferman even tried to use the brakes before the crash. As a result, Cueva-Ferman is currently in Harris County Jail with his bail set at $50,000.
Sadly, his wife, Palma Garcia Marlen-Beatrice died at the scene of the crash. According to Cueva-Ferman, she was praying and trying to hold her son before the car collided with a concrete sign that Cueva-Ferman drove towards allegedly to stop the speeding vehicle.
The child, Cueva-Ferman and Marlen-Beatrice’s 3 year old son, received minor injuries in the wreck as did Cueva-Ferman. After the incident Child Protective Services placed the 3 year old boy with relatives as the case is investigated. A terrible tragedy all around, most of all for the now motherless child.
