Kotex Tampons Recall 1,400 Cartons For Infectious Bacteria

The Kimberly-Clark Corporation has recalled over 1,400 cartons of Kotex tampons for defects

Tests have shown that the plastic tubing in these particular cartons contain the bacterium Enterobacter Sakazakii. Dangerous infections can occur after usage. The bacteria can cause problems ranging from vaginal infections to pelvic inflammatory disease, and possible “potentially life-threatening infections.”

Women with immune-compromised conditions such as HIV are at higher risk, according to MyHealthNewsDaily. The report also included a detailed breakdown of locations which received the potentially infected product.

The impacted product includes both 18-count and 36-count packages of the Kotex Natural Balance Security Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency which was shipped to retail customers between October 29, 2011 and November 2, 2011 in specific Walmart stores in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Texas; specific Fry’s stores in Arizona; and specific Smith’s stores in Utah and Arizona.

Kimberly-Clark Corp. has stated in a press release that all stores have been notified of this recall and were instructed to remove the product from their shelves, also stating that consumer should contact a physician immediately if they have used the impacted product and experienced unusual vaginal discharge, rash, fever, headace, vomiting or abdominal aches. It’s a higher risk if they are HIV positive, have AIDS, cancer, an existing serious illness or may be pregnant. If a consumer has the impacted product and are using them still, they must stop immediately.
