In Hendersonville, TN, fifty drivers were victim to the heavy fog when one tiny created an incredible 50 car pile-up on Vietnam Veterans Parkway, killing one person and injuring seventeen.
It all started just before 7am yesterday morning, when a car crashed into a mail truck as it turned on a curved overpass, which had a thin layer of ice on it. Combined with the fog, prevention was nearly impossible for the cars behind to stop in time. One driver stated that the fog was so thick, once you hit the car in front of you all you could do is stare in your rear view mirror and hold on tight for the other car to hit you.
After crashing, most of the drivers got out of their cars to check if any of their parties were injured. They walked to the front, trying to find the beginning of the pile up, discovering it was nearly impossible in the thick fog to see that crashed cars were lined up for nearly a mile.
Among the victims, 28-year old Paul Jackson Warren was killed when his Toyota slammed into an 18-wheeler. Warren was a newlywed.
The weather just before the crash dropped to 25 degrees, which is why there was so much ice around the highway. But questions are rising to whether it was mother nature or a negligence with the highway itself.
