Houston Car Crash Lawyer Warns About Toyota Floor Mat Entrapment

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued advice to Toyota customers in the wake of the manufacturer’s recent recalls.  One of the recalls issued by Toyota is for gas pedal floor mat entrapment.  Given the potential severity of this problem and the risk of serious auto accidents, many Houston motorists are concerned about the safety of their Toyota vehicles – especially since Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood’s blunder where he warned Toyota drivers to stop driving their vehicles.

Gas Pedal Floor Mat Entrapment

The largest Toyota recall deals with vehicles with a faulty gas pedal / floor mat design.  There is a possibility that the gas (accelerator) pedal could become trapped under the floor mat, making it difficult to slow or stop the vehicle.  Over four million Toyota, Lexus, and Pontiac vehicles have been affected by this recall.

If your Toyota is one of the vehicles affected by this recall, the NHTSA advises that you:

• IMMEDIATELY remove the driver’s side floor mat
• When you receive a letter from Toyota, go to your local dealer for a fix

• 2005-2010 Avalon
• 2004-2009 Prius
• 2005-2010 Tacoma
• 2007-2010 Tundra
• 2007-2010 ES 350
• 2006-2010 IS 250 and IS350
• 2008-2010 Highlander
• 2009-2010 Corolla
• 2009-2010 Venza
• 2009-2010 Matrix
• 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe
