The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a press release directed to motorists affected by the various Toyota recalls.  Gas pedals that stick (or, as the NHTSA put it, are hard to depress and slow to return to the closed position) can cause vehicles to accelerate unexpectedly and be difficult, if not impossible to stop.  Clearly this is a very dangerous situation.  Numerous car crashes across the country have been blamed on sticky gas pedals (or on the related floor mat entrapment issue).

About 2.3 million vehicles are affected by the sticky gas pedal recall, and include:

• 2008-2010 Sequoia
• 2005-2010 Avalon

• 2009-2010 Corolla
• 2009-2010 Matrix
• 2009-2010 RAV4
• 2010 Highlander
• 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe

If you own one of these vehicles and if you experience “unusual issues” involving the gas (acceleration) pedal, the NHTSA advises that you immediately park your vehicle and notify your dealer right away.  If your accelerator pedal becomes stuck the NHTSA says that you should put the car in neutral, bring it to a stop, and call the dealer immediately.
